The electrical control system that 8K electronic locomotive adopts is a traditional relay control system, regards as touch point control system. The range of locomotive control system is wide and complicated. The reliability of control system directly determines reliability and security in the running of locomotive. After years’ of operation, the affection of several undesirable factors from externalities leads to frequent failure of relay control system, making repairment and trouble-shooting rather difficult.In response to the above situation, the old relay control system is replaced by programmable logic controller (PLC), which author’s unit adopts. The transformed PLC system successfully took the place of both the original intermediate relay and the large volume of wire in the electronic appliance cabinet. Therefore, it wipes original system out of a variety of fault which was caused by relay itself.The necessity and feasibility of 8K locomotive PLC transformation is being demonstrated in this thesis. Underpinned by deep analysis of locomotive’s already existing control system, control function which should be improved was brought up by author, and technical solution of PLC transformation was confirmed. This thesis introduces several aspects including the selection of PLC model, the figure-related calculation of each module, the configuration of rack, the allocation of I/O address, the layout of PLC electronic appliance cabinet, the classification of software module and the formation of control (functional) software module. This thesis highlighting the information of the should- be-improved control function and formation of control (functional) software module, which is also the key point of PLC transformation.Huge improvement is shown due to the increasing reliability brought by PLC system rather than old relay control system. PLC system ensures safe and reliable operation of the 8K electronic locomotive in the long run, reduces the maintenance work and running cost notably.
