In recent years, there are many applications of stainless steel reinforcement in foreign countries especially on bridge engineering due to its superior corrosion resistance and mechanical properties in reinforced concrete, as well as cutting down the maintenance cost within service life. So far the research of stainless steel reinforced concrete is almost concentrated in the material properties of stainless steel, concrete, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. But the research for the impact properties of bridge pier with stainless steel reinforced concrete is still few.The major contents and achievements of this paper are as follows:1.The experimental research on horizontal collision of bridge pier is finished under different load cases. The time history curves of the response of collision force, acceleration, velocity, displacement and strain are obtained by the experiment.2.The energy-maximum displacement curve in different place showed similar variation, through curve fitting, the quadratic function relationship between energy-max displacement and is the related curved between energy and maximum impact force are established established.3.The finite element model of pier collision is built and the theoretical research on bridge pier collision is carried out under two different load cases. By comparing the model test and numerical calculation, the results are in good agreement. It is proved that the model parameters adopted in this paper can simulate the response of bridge pier under impact loads accurately. So is the correctness and reliability of the finite element numerical simulation calculation.4. Comparing the car velocity-time curve with the impact force-time curve, the varying pattern between impact force and car velocity is got.
