Residential Wind Environment is a key factor influencing the energy efficiency of a house and yet is often ignored. Optimization of Wind Environment helps improve indoor air quality, enhance physical comfort, reduce the use of air-conditioners, and cut down building’s energy consumption. Considerable Wind Environment research still needs to be done on residential energy-saving and indoor air quality improvement. This paper studies the small dwelling-size apartment in Zhengzhou, adopts a proper Wind Environment design strategy, and analyzes natural ventilation and wind proofing, which can improve indoor air quality and enhance comfort with less energy consumption.Chapter One, introduction, narrates the research background, objective and signi ficance, and introduces the main contents and methods of the research. Chapter Two f ocuses on the conceptions, Which firstly explains the main concept of Wind Environ ment through natural ventilation and wind proofing, and then summarizes the major f actors of natural ventilation and wind proofing. This lays a solid foundation for furthe r research. Chapter Three analyzes the Wind Environment design experience from the following two aspects of traditional residence and modern building, which offers an i ndispensable reference for analysis of small dwelling-size apartment. Chapter Four is the major part of this paper, which studies small dwelling-size apartment in the uniqu e climate conditions of Zhengzhou, analyzes the present status of small dwelling-size apartment construction, summarizes the characteristics of small dwelling-size apartm ent, and puts forward the Wind Environment design strategy of small dwelling-size a partment. This paper optimizes the Wind Environment design through improvi floor p lanning, floor type, doors and windows, and relevant structure. In each research sub-a rea, the present study adopts CFD Simulation Software and accumulated experience i n the research of small dwelling-size apartment Wind Environment in Zhengzhou, an d puts forward a feasible strategy of Wind Environment design in Zhengzhou. Chapte r Five, the paper demonstrates a case study of Wind Environment simulation for two projects in Zhengzhou, and optimizes the case using the strategy of Wind Environmen t design summarized in the study.
