Luffing jib tower crane is a complex structure, which is made up of a plenty ofbeam-bar elements. Metal structure accounted for about70%of the weight, and metalstructure design is reasonable will directly influence the working performance of thecrane. At present, the design of tower crane mainly based on the empirical design, andits own design philosophy has not been formed. In order to improve the capability forindependent design, we have to study the theory on design.In this paper, each structure of tower crane has been conducted the force analysisand primary design used by limit states design method(LSDM). In according to therelative formula in “Design rules for crane” GB/T3811-2008and Design rules fortower crane GB/T13752-92,the primary proofread are conducted on its intensity,rigidity and stability. After the structure is basically confirmed to be logical, using thefinite element method on computer and computer software ANSYS for structurecalculation to model, simulate, calculate and analyze accurately, further verify theaccuracy and the rationality of the design results. In the finite element analysis, inorder to simulate the work condition of the tower crane in the reality, four kinds ofconditions has been designed which may be encountered in the actual work of thecomplex load combination. The result would be got after analyzing and computingdetailedly.In order to reduce the weight of the tower crane as far as possible, this paperoptimum design for the boom through ANSYS software and give the optimizationprogram. But limited to a variety of reasons, this article only optimized boom design,has not been on the tower body, tower caps, arm balance to optimize the analysis ofsuch components, which need to be further in-depth study.
