In the field of petrochemical, electric power, water conservancy, coal and otherindustries at home and abroad, many large rotating units are the key and coreequipments of enterprise production. Due to the importance of these large rotatingunits, the failure will lead to an unplanned shutdown of the unit or plant, with theimportant economic losses and environmental impact. Base on the large-scalepetrochemical joint-venture in Tianjin and Tianjin University, this essay aiming tointroduce the basic theory and composition structure of machinery protection andstatus monitoring system, can be the reference for the selection and application oflarge rotating unit. Combine with the actual typical failure in the field of engineering,through the failure analysis and experimental verification, find out the cause of thefailure and gives the solutions or preventive measures, in order to improve the safetyand reliability of the unit. This paper mainly includes the following several parts:1、The background and significance of large rotating unit machinery protectionand status monitoring system. Because of the importance of these large rotating units,the failure would lead to an unplanned shutdown of the unit or plant, with thesignificant lose and impact. How to make the key units operating long-term, safetyand stable, forecast and diagnostic early, and substitute preventive maintenance formaintenance after failure is the major objective of machinery protection and statusmonitoring system.2、This essay was aiming to introduce the basic theory and composition structureof machinery protection and status monitoring system, including the adapt status forvarious sensors, the theory and application of eddy current sensor and thesynchronous full period vibration sampling theory, etc. Through the introduction forstructure and actual application of Bently3500machinery protection and Alstomstrongwish status monitoring system, this essay can be the reference for the selectionand application of machinery protection and status monitoring system.3、Failure introduction and cause analysis for status monitoring system of largerotating unit. Through the systemic research and analysis for the typical failures, suchas the shaft scratches and electromagnetic interference, this essay analyzed the impactand causes of these failures, with the synchronous full period vibration sampling theory and the real-time spectrum analysis.4、This essay provided the solution and preventive measures for the typicalfailures. The essay tested the solution through the simulation test in laboratory andfactory. The results of test certificated the feasibility and necessity of the solution andpreventive measures, reduced the probability of similar failure, and improved thesafety and reliability of the large rotating unit.
