Peiping, which used to be a glorious capital, but also in face of theglobal modernization, is the pioneer that carried the protection and development.“Inheritance of the Ancient Capital” means that “the ancient city’s protection anddevelopment are before and after the succession with the same strain”.This thesis is based on the relationship between protection and development as ofthe main line. The research contents are both ideas and practices about the planningdevelopment and the protection of Peiping.By teasing the municipal plans, urban planning, protection projects, renewal projects,development projects of Peiping’s all periods, this thesis aims at showing up the gamebetween city planning’s development and ancient city’s protection, and summarizingthe experience of predecessors in order to enlighten the development of the historycities today.At last, gazing at the contradiction between protection and development of themodern history cities, this thesis dissects the essences of the contradiction and thepeculiarities of the history cities, and discusses how to make the history cities’protection and development are before and after the succession with the same strain inthe future.
