With the rapid development of economy and continuous growth of overallnational strength, China’s transportation industry steps into its golden age. In highwayand urban road facilities construction, asphalt mixture is widely used as surface layerpavement material. Within the lifetime of asphalt pavement, different kinds of ruttingdamage are imposed to the surface due to the traffic channeling and continuousgrowth of effective traffic load. Considering the factor that influence rutting resistanceof asphalt mixture material, the study focus on how the asphalt material, gradationtypes and surface layer pavement structure individually affect the rutting resistancecapability of asphalt mixture material through indoor rutting test and verification ofengineering examples. In order to display how asphalt material and gradation types influence thedynamic stability value of asphalt mixture material, indoor rutting tests areimplemented on the base of mix proportion design of asphalt mixture. Thesingle-layer rutting test is to individually analyze how asphalt material and gradationtypes affect the dynamic stability value of asphalt mixture material. The double-layerruting test is to analyze how different surface layer pavement combinations affect thedynamic stability value of the double layer pavement structure under differentcombinations of asphalt material and gradation types. The regression equationdescribing the relation among upper-layer dynamic stability value, lower-layerdynamic stability value and the dynamic stability value of the double layer pavementstructure is established. The reasonability verification of the regression equation isalso carried out through Grey Correlation Analysis. The study analyzes the factors that affect the rutting resistance capability ofasphalt continuous dense gradation mixture (AC) through the method of GreyCorrelation Degree Analysis and Gray Correlation Entropy Analysis. The relevancerank of each factor is put forward. Then the regression equation describing therelation of key factors and asphalt mixture material dynamic stability value isestablished. It can be used as a reference for improving the mix proportion of asphaltAC mixture, evaluation and control of asphalt AC mixture.Several roads are selected to monitor the long-term rutting resistance of theirsurface pavement layer. Evaluations on the rutting depth are carried out under different kinds of typical surface pavement structure through establishing regressionequation between rutting depth and time for each kind of surface pavement structure. The best combination of surface pavement structure may be helpful for constructionand maintenance of asphalt pavement.
