As an important part of automotive air conditioning system, condenser radiatorfan shroud plays the role of fixing fan to make it function effectively and bringingcool wind for the condenser radiator. However, because of the complex workenvironment, on the one hand, the fan shroud bears the excitation transferred from theground to the car body., on the other hand, there is still the impact from the gravity ofthe fan and fan motor and the rotating fan. It has important practical significance tomake fatigue analysis of the shroud and predict the fatigue life of the shroud.In this paper, taking a condenser radiator fan shroud as the object of study.Organically combining the dynamic analysis, finite element analysis, modal analysisand fatigue analysis to forecast fatigue life the fan shroud and provide strong basis forthe optimization and improvement of radiator fan shroud. The main research work areas follows:1)Using3D modeling software UG to build geometric model of radiator fanshroud and related components like fan and motor. Establish finite element modelin Hypermesh and the style of mesh is shell. Import the finite element model intoAbaqus software to carry out static analysis to obtain the stress distribution understatic conditions.2)Establishe the model of fan shroud as a rigid body in Adams software and dodynamic analysis and get the load spectrum. Through calculation to get the flexiblemodel of fan shroud in Hypermesh. Establish rigid coupling dynamic simulationmodel in Adams software for load spectrum.3) Using empirical formula and parameters of the material itself to derive the SNcurve of material. Based on the stress distribution of finite element analysis, the loadspectrum and SN curve of material, calculate the fatigue life of the fan shroud inFe-safe software. Compare fatigue analysis result of the fan shroud as rigid body andflexible body. Discuss the impact of fan speed on the fatigue life of fan shroud. Buildthe test bench of the fan cover, juxtapose the test results and finite element analysisresults.4)According to the results of modal analysis to optimize and improve theradiator fan shroud and then verify the feasibility of improvements.Using virtual simulation methods to make fatigue life analysis of auto parts has agood reference value and guiding significance for the preliminary design ofautomotive components. Meanwhile, the accurate prediction of the fatigue life of theradiator fan shroud can timely remind us of the replacement of failed parts andprevent bad impact of the car ’s overall usefulness.
