Research On Framework Of Overall Cityscape Planning

Cityscape refers to the physical space shaped by the natural landscape and builtenvironment. While reflecting the local environment, culture, customs and economicconditions and other characteristics, cityscape is an important feature for a city differentfrom others. Since the1980s, when the concept of "cityscape" was first introduced tothe discipline of urban planning, China’s cityscape planning has gone through a timefrom the protection of historical district to the feature promoting planning over thegeneral urban areas, under the embarrassing situation of “the same image of every city”.Today, with the increasing complexity of urban structure, the overall cityscape of abig city is always fragmented due to the parted urban design or cityscape design. Thus,some cities have proposed, and more cities will get involved, to establish a cityscapeplanning covering the major aspects of built environment of a city, namely the overallplanning of cityscape. Currently, there’re some problems in the cityscape controlpractice by overall urban design, for the gradual weakening attention to the visualperception, the ignorance on the form of background constructions and thedisconnection on the lower level design. In this context, the importance of the overallcityscape planning has been recognized, but the theoretical study and the planningmethods need for further exploration.The study first summed up the general concerns of cityscape at present throughtheoretical study. Then the analysis of domestic and abroad cases, especially the casestudy of10overall cityscape planning on aspects of planning methods, control elementsand implementation, forms a preliminary framework for the overall cityscape planningmethods at present. On the basis of these studies, this paper, the "overall cityscapeplanning of Zhuzhou City" project as an empirical study, applied the current methodsand adjusted the methodological framework according to the local condition of ZhuzhouCity.This paper combining theoretical studies, case studies and empirical innovates, setsup a systematic study for overall cityscape planning and proposed a future researchprospects, hoping to play a reference role in current cityscape study.
