The paper starts from the semi-arid area in northwestern China, bases on the semi-aridprecipitation condition, the seasonal climate characteristic, the special speciescommunity succession law and some other natural environment characteristics, and thepresent situation of urban development, urban infrastructure construction and urbangreen space construction. In the first, theoretically verify the necessity of leading ofgreen infrastructure in new city construction of semi-arid area in northwestern China.Then choose the four representative cities:Xi’an, Xi Ning, Yin Chuan and Lan Zhou innorthwest semi-arid area as the research object, through field investigations,information searching and any other ways to find the present situation and problem inthe construction of infrastructure of those cities, by the method of find problem-solveproblem, analysis the influence factors those restricting the development of cityecological environment, and learn from the advanced experience of domestic andinternational cities where green infrastructure has been well implemented. Based on theprevious theory summarize the enforceable approach and strategy of urban greeninfrastructure in different scales and different levels. At last, with an example ofChan-ba Ecological District, investigate the specific practices in city river wetland park,city waterfront green space, ecological road and any other aspects of green infrastructure. The thesis is mainly from the following aspects to discuss:1Define the research objects-green infrastructure. Elaborate the background of theresearch and its’theoretical and practical significance, theoretical basis, and the researchstatus at home and abroad. And structure theoretical background of the topic.2Introduce the characteristic of geographical environment, climate and ecologicalenvironment, and present situation of city development, elaborate the present situationof city infrastructure and city green space construction, deep analysis the existence ofproblems and the restraining factors that influence its’development.3For the problems brought by the development of cities, give the correct solution:green infrastructure. Elaborate the significance and effect of green infrastructure for thecities in semi-arid area in northwestern China.4Through field investigation, mapping and statistics of city infrastructure and greenspace in Xi’an, Xi Ning, Lan Zhou and Yin Chuan, by the method of find problem-solve problem, and combined with the previous theoretical study, preliminary explorethe implementation approach of green infrastructure in new district construction ofsemi-arid area in northwestern China.5With an example of Chan-ba Ecological District, summarize the climate, geographyand any other characteristics of nature environment, analysis and research the practicecases of city river wetland park, city waterfront green space, ecological road and anyother aspects, shows the maneuverability of the above strategies, and as a reference ofother cities in semi-arid area in northwestern China.6Based on those above theory and practice researching, make a prospect of theapplication prospect and development space of green infrastructure in northwesternsemi-arid area, even across China.The project is supported by the two national natural science foundations:Green Spacein Northwest city—Research of Habitat Creating Model and AdaptiveDesigning Method(51278410/E080202) and Study on Small Climate AdaptabilityDesigning Theory and Methods of City Livable Environment Landscape(51338007).
