| With the rapid development of urbanization in our country, the space of citieskeeps growing, the spatial structure and the traffic is getting increasingly complex, andthe characteristics of cities are weakened. Therefore, the urban public space andenvironment is becoming more and more difficult to recognize, to memory and todescribe. However, with the integration process of globalization speeding up, we arefacing with a growing urban population as well as an increasing and accelerating flowfrequency. The difficulty to look for a way for foreign travellers, migrant workers andbusinessmen has become a common problem in most cities, especially large andmedium-sized ones, even many local residents feel confused when looking for theirways. Behavior has had great influence on its way and principle of setting, and the keycause lies in the cognition on urban space environments and the behavior ofway-finding.Based on field investigation, this paper combines experimental data andexperiments on way-finding and analyzes some common problems of the guidancemarking system from the empirical point of view, such as missing guidance information, inadequate facilities, inappropriate position, lack of linkage between individual facilitiesand between different kinds of facilities as well as lack of systematicness. Moreover, itputs forward some countermeasures according to existing problems. By using theguidance markings setting method mentioned in the Buildings and way-finding writtenby Romedi Passion, an American construction planner, and using the Quest3D to build virtual space models, it looks for the best spacing and position for guidance markingsand presents some constructive suggestions and measures for improvement for thesetting of guidance markings around metro stations.Although the layout of the guidance markings has been tested and it constantlydiscovers and solves its own problems, it is still in the exploratory stage. According tothe principles in some studies that is found and improved, this paper finds the guidancemarkings that people need in Xi’an by investigation and enables them to achieve theirvalue to be an effective solution to lessen the difficulty of way-finding around metrostations. Some exploratory experiments in the metro station guidance marking systemare carried out in this paper and some unreasonable status is found and correspondingsolutions are proposed. As said in the Environmental psychology written by Hu Yulianand Hu Zhengfan, the outcome of the study is not only to set up a lot of place names, signs and numbers, but also to find the characteristics of specific places and set upspecific markings. It puts forward some measures for improvement and construction ofurban guidance markings around the metro stations according to their setting standardsand specifications as well as the rules and changes of development and improvementfrom both the theory and technology perspective. And further study can be carried out.If more scientific and correct design and setting methods are proposed and morecomprehensive and reasonable measures are taken, a perfect metro station way-findingtransportation network and guidance marking system around the station will be underconstruction in the near future. |
