Nowadays, urban rail transit becomes more and more popular with city constructors and travelers for its large-traffic-capacity and low-energy-consumption characters. Urban rail transit station is the only way that the rail transit contacts with the outside environment and the essential node where passengers take the train. Therefore, rational allocation of space resources and function layout of the station area is of great significance for improving service level of rail transit, decreasing private cars and reducing carbon emission. This paper firstly reviewed the former achievements of constructing low-carbon city, found out that tight and efficient city form, highly mixed land utilization and public transit development is the key to reducing urban carbon emission. By reviewing the history of traffic modes and the development of urban space structure, it demonstrated that traffic modes directly affect urban space, and rail transit station has a great influence on land utilization style:the mature station land utilization would be replaced by a more scientific utilization mode, meanwhile the station in fringe area would play a guide role to promote the development of the area.Based on the review of theory, this paper took the sixteen stations of Nanjing Metro Linel as an example, using FME and ArcGIS to get the statistics of land use structure of station areas. With this statistics, this paper used SPSS19.0to do cluster analysis of the stations and divided them into five categories as public center station, residential district station, transport hub station scenic area station and the general station. On this basis, passenger flow characteristics and passengers’ demands were analyzed for all types of stations. Then this paper analyzed the current situations and the problems of the various stations, finally provided the measure for optimization.
