With the development of tourism in Xi’an, since there are unique natural sceneries and rich historical relics in the northern foot of Qinling Mountains, the area becomes a recreationalhotspot in Xi’an even in the Shaanxi Province. Meanwhile, the vertical expansion of Xi’an city threats the ecological security of the area. Based on that, in order to respond the call of ecological civilization construction and develop tourism resources by the philosophy of eco-tourism, the paper selected the northern foot road of Qinling Mountains which is crucial in the area’s tourism development and cross over eco-sensitive areas as the object. The paper focuses on the ecological impact of this road on the surrounding area and environmental elements, therefore seeking solutions of ecological problems. On this basis, after field survey and basic research of the object, the following results can bemade:1. the northern foot road of Qinling Mountains plays significant role in connecting recreational resources of the area.2. It is the centre of the entire developing area.3. It is a boundary of Xi’an urban construction area and nature reserve of Qinling Mountains, which is not onlya regional traffic channel, but also a window of Qinling local resources and culture. Thus, core issues of this paper are–what is the affect of the operation and construction referring to thismountain road on the inside structure of landscape ecology and landscape pattern? Also as a large artificial construction project which is cross over eco-sensitive areas between mountainsand urban city, what is the impact on the surrounding natural ecosystem? How to develop tourism by using the philosophy of eco-tourism and design techniques, minimize the impact of artificial corridor construction and human activities on the ecological environment, create highlight areas with natural and cultural characteristics and coordinate the piedmont environment ofQinling Mountains with the tourism industry, achieving common sustainable development. This paper involves two parts. The first one focuses on the background of this mountainroad. The significance of the northern foot of Qinling Mountains is affirmed by the analysis ofthe relationship between Qinling Mountains and the city development. While the historicalprocess summarized by literature of the road construction and tourism development on bothsides is used as a basis for later solutions. In the main part, from two angles which arelandscape structure and specific environmental elements, the paper starts research on theimpact of mountain road recreational area on ecological environment. Specifically, the firstangle refers to the analysis of the evolution of landscape process and pattern in PeacefulValley; while the second angle is related to the construction and status quo of landscape inthis mountain road recreational area.In the end, ecological problem-solving strategies are raised for Peaceful Valley areabased on the research. The strategies are implanting a recreational greenway network to repairand optimize the landscape pattern at a macro level, building ecological corridors to restorethe blocked habitat at a meso level, and making suggestions as the habitat creation andoptimization of landscape design for corridors at a micro level. At a macro level, a solutionthat relies on the construction of ecological greenway network, thereby connectingrecreational areas and establishing ecological corridors and buffer zones is proposed; at ameso level, a way by using greenway plants and applying design strategies of distinguishinglandscape interface is suggested; at a micro level, a proposal of cross-node landscapeconstruction is made. Corresponding to the impact of this target area on the landscapestructure and environmental elements, solutions of ecological issues from macro-structure tospecific elements have been offered. And these solutions obtain reference meaning for thesubsequent development and ecological protection of the recreational mountain road area inthe northern foot of Qinling Mountains.
