The issue researches on the new product developed by Harbin HuaTuo MetalStructure Co. Ltd. In current, a lot of small or medium-tonnage cranes are required forthe construction of the buildings with the vigorous urbanization in China. Potain towercrane are popular in the market because of its economic and convenient features ininstallation and utilization. R&D of the T5515type low head tower crane as specialproduct is one of the important projects in Harbin Huatuo Metal Structure Co. Ltd. Lowhead tower cranes show good performance by owning the advantages in convenientinstallation and impact structure of potain crane and the good mechanical property of jibin single rod tower crane. However, this type crane is rarely available for purchase inthe market. Therefore Harbin HuaTuo Metal Structure Co. Ltd designs andmanufactures the type T5515low head tower crane to promote the development ofenterprise and meet the needs of the market.Calculation and analysis of structures is the key scope of crane design, also is thekey research focus of this issue. Two aspects of traditional methods and modern finiteelement analysis method are applied for calculation and analysis of the T5515typelow head tower crane in this paper. The main parts of the overall structure design areaccording to the “tower crane design standard”(GB/T13752-92) and the "crane designstandard"(GB3811-2008). First, the whole structure of tower crane is analyzed usingthe traditional structural mechanics and material mechanics. The overall parametersand the structural geometric parameters are preliminary determined from thestrength, stiffness and stability conditions. Then, the finite element analysis software isused for static analysis of the whole structure to satisfy the strength, stiffness andstability conditions. Subsequently, the dynamic analysis of tower crane is performedto obtain the first several natural frequencies. The transient response of the braking loadcase is calculated for analyzing the structural deformation and dynamic stress affectedby the dynamic loads.According the structural analysis, the structure design is completed fordevelopment of the prototype crane.
