Comparative Study On The Innovation Of Building Performance-based Fire Protection Design, Domestic And Abroad

With the mass construction of high-rise buildings, modern buildings and megaprojects, the Prescriptive Fire Protection Design Regulation approach cannotsatisfy the need of contemporary fire-safety building design. Thus,performance-based fire safety design comes into being.It s been about20years that China has been introduced to the performance-basedfore safety design approach, and although we have breakthroughs in several vitaltechnologies and applications on many realistic projects, we still haven testablished a thorough system and code of this approach. Due to inadequate knowledgeof basic theories and abroad technologies, lack of evaluation experience, fewspecialized operators and fragmented system of the research, there are lots ofproblems we are facing in the practical application of the performance-based firesafety design.Performance-based approach has been developed abroad for almost40years, and it sstill in the process of improvement. We can tell different country has its ownframework system of this approach according to their policies, buildings andenvironment. Although recent years, there has been hold several internationalconferences to spread the idea of performance-based fire-safety design researchesfrom different countries, we still need to make our way. Therefore, it is still bea big issue to establish a complete framework of china s performance-based firesafety design approach in the present period.We can always learn from the history. To complete the approach and apply into practice,we need to study from the history of development from several elite countries inthis field. Given comparison, we can seek the advantage and avoid the failure inour design. This research conclude the whole developments and main achievements within decadesfrom several main countries. By comparison, it analyzes the different strategy,approach and managing regulations in the performance-based fire safety design, andstudy the disadvantage of china s performance-based fire safety approach accordingto our own policies and regulations. In the end, it summarizes the advantage anddisadvantage of development of performance-based fire safety design and suggestionsto the completion and application of the approach.
