Research On The Fire Protection And Fire Escape Design Of Commercial Buildings

With the development of economy and the improvement of architectural technology in China, architectural forms have changed considerably. Recently, in many big cities an amount of large-scale and multifunctional commercial buildings have been constructed, which have developed into complex with refined structures, complicated constructions, and varied forms.However, with the development of the commercial complex, the tendency of fire is also ascending. Since the large scale, big space and multifunction present more difficulties to the fire protection and fire escape design. Albeit a lot of studies have been done on it and considerable achievements have been achieved, it still remains blank on the aspect of a systemic research on how to conduct fire protection design using prescriptive methods in commercial buildings. This thesis therefore explores this issue in-depth while combining with case studies of real projects.It aims to offer a good reference and detailed information for projects by a thorough and systemic introduction of how to apply the prescriptive fire protection design method in commercial buildings. It will consist of the following aspects:1.It introduces the evolution of commercial buildings in our country; states the severe situation of fires in commercial buildings in recent years; shows the importance of fire protection design.2.It discusses the body of fire protection design of present and the regulations concerned in our country; clarifies the contradiction of the requirements of commercial buildings'functions and fire protection design. It summarizes the key points of fire protection and escape design in commercial buildings through an analysis of people's reactions when being evacuated in fire, and the damage of smoke.3.It goes on to discuss the application of present fire protection design method based on existed regulations by using two typical commercial building projects as examples.In the end, through expounding the limits of prescriptive method in nowadays projects, it proposes that it is an inevitable tendency to develop performance-based fire protection design method. In addition, it also introduces the present situation and achievements of using performance-based fire protection design all over the world. And it suggests that, given the condition of performance-base fire protection design not fully developed, a combination of prescriptive method and performance-base method should be used while the priority given to the former.
