| The thesis study on the questions of urban space’s scale in former concessionsarea in Tianjin. There were nine countries’ concessions constructed in Tianjin from1860s to1940s. Though quantitative methods and comparative analysis on blocks andstreet network of each concession and Tianjin old town, the thesis try to reveal thecharacteristics of space’s scale in concessions in Tianjin, so that it can providescientific base for recognizing the value of the urban heritage from the viewpoint ofurban space scale. The thesis is composed of two parts: the technical route of quantitative analysisand the research of city space scale. City space scale involves two aspects: block androad network. In the part of quantitative techniques, firstly, I restored the colonial citymap reference to the1955Tianjin city map as the main basis and the existinghistorical map. Then I created a set of method to quantify the city space scale throughappropriate parameters which can reflect the characteristics of blocks and roadnetwork, the space model of Tianjin old concession district which is built on GISplatform and the statistics method of all the parameters. In the part of the city spacescale research, the paper selected area and perimeter which is the most fundamentalproperty of plane geometry to describe the characteristics of the block while itestablished sampling grid to describe the characteristics of road from the angle of roadnetwork density. Finally, the thesis discovered the different characteristics of the eightconcession and the old town of Tianjin in city spacial scales and the effect of theHaihe River to Tianjin modern city space scale, using the method of comparativestudy.Nowadays, a large number of historical blocks which are not included in thescope of protection have been demolition in the large scale of city development. Ihope the result of the thesis can provide a new perspective to cognitive the city spatialof old concession district and a new idea of city heritage value cognition, in order tomake the protection and development of historic blocks end into the framework ofcity planning. |
