| Tianjin former German concession, which was demarcated in 1895 and regressed in 1917, was located on the west side of Hai river, Hexi district. However, as time goes on, the environmental quality in the concession was fallen down. The houses and infrastructure had turned to be inconvenient. Having realized the situation, the Tianjin government begun to renovate the whole area in order to solve the problems mentioned above.However, in the renovating process, the original style and characteristic of architecture and environment were fading away. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the balance between the economy development and the culture protection during the renovation process.This paper is composed of five chapters. In the first chapter, by comparing the former Tianjin German concession and other Chinese former German concessions, the author concluded the general characteristic in architecture and environment aspects. In the second chapter, by analyzing the actuality of this history block, the author clarified its advantage and disadvantage. The third chapter focused on case studies of the protection and exploitation projects in this history block. In the fourth chapter, the author concluded the protection strategy of the former Tianjin German Concession. In the fifth chapter, taking the Tianjin Rhine-City Project as subject, the author evaluated the protection strategy concluded by this study.The purpose of this paper is to explore a method to protect and exploit the characteristic and style of former Tianjin German Concession, in order to inherit its value in history, culture and art aspects. |
