Abstract:With the quickly development of the national economy, the construction of urban infrastructure becomes more and more, and the vehicle parc is increasing quickly in our coutry. The Urban traffic congestion problem becomes more and more serious. Then it is one of the valid solutions to slove traffic issue to research one safe, quick, efficient and mordern Traffic signal control system which is suit to the situation in our country. On the other hand, with the development and innovate of Programmable logic technology,FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is used in the digital system design widely and becomes booming development.So this article researchs the Traffic signal controllers based on FPGA.This article researchs kinds of shifting programs for the signal phase in one signal cycle, beginning with Traffic signal control theory. And it optimizes the traditional Timing-Control, Time-segmented Control, and Inteligent Control. And it designs multi-mode choice, time adjustment, multi-period devision and variable phase sequence signal control solution. And then it completes the dedicated chip design of traffic signal controllers basd on FPGA, with Cyclone II FPGA chip as core, EPCS16as configuration chip, through extended memory circuits, SD card port circuits, LED and Seven-segment digital tube display circuit. At last, it designs the kinds of control modes for traffic signal via Verilog HDL (HDL:Hardware Discription Language), and does compile and simulation in Quartus II development platform, and downloads to FPGA chip. The resulte indicates that the system can realize the light color transformation and countdown show of traffic signal controllers automatically.The traffic controller based on FPGA contains features including circuit simpleness, quick and time re-writing, high operation speed, low breakdown rate, high reliablity and small bluk. And it can control the traffic lights change in multiple crossings through extend functions and extend ports, and can realize the functions of time and quick re-writing te appilcation programs.
