The virtual reality system uses the virtual sample to replace the real object. It can predictpossible problems of the product ahead and solve the problems at the design stage. Thus it canavoid the waste of materials, save the cost and shorten the building cycle of the product. Virtualassembly and virtual roaming are important parts of the virtual reality technology.The ship piping assembly occupies a considerable proportion in shipbuilding cycle. Due tothe numerous parts of the ship piping, the relatively small installation space and the muchdifferent arrangement of the ship piping, in practice, it mainly relies on the experience ofdesigners. The assembly program of ship piping generally occurs in the posterior segment of theproduct manufacturing cycle, which often brings the material waste.In this paper, aiming at the ship piping layout problems that may arise, we chose the shippiping as the research object and developed a virtual roaming and assembly system of shippiping. It used3ds Max to build a three-dimensional solid model of the ship piping, then led it tothe virtual platform of VRP to complete the script editor for piping animation control, and finallyrealized the man-machine interface of this system by C++. The system allows designers tounderstand the arrangement and installation process of the vessel piping in more detail, andpredict the difficult which may appear during the work. There will be certain guidingsignificance for practical work of ship piping assembly. In this thesis, I mainly completed severalcontents as the following:First, led the piping model of Tribon into3ds Max to adjust and modify, and did somepost-processing for the piping model, such as adding lights, materials, textures, baking, rendering,etc. then completed the piping’s roaming and assembly animations in3ds Max.Secondly, used the fuel piping system as a model, led its three-dimensional solid model andrigid body animations into VRP, completed the script programming of the piping animation inthe VRP software, designed interactive features of the piping animation controlled by mouse,keyboard, button, and achieved two ways of automatic roaming and autonomous roaming for theship piping.Then, edited the interactive interface by C++, and implemented the function that callingVRP script programming in C++via the VRP-SDK toolkit, which made the system design to bemuch friendly. Finally, summarized the job of the subject and indicated the direction for future research.
