Advantages of lithium cells are known by its small capacity, light weight, highenergy density, environment protection for ecosystem, long circle life, immunity formemory effect, etc. With deep progress towards digital societies, an increasingnumber of applications for lithium cells can be used for the particular applicationsneeded. Specifically, Some forms of lithium cells which are rather small can provide ahigh current density and are ideal for some electronic equipment, e.g. mobile phones,portable GPS(i.e. Global Position System), laptops, etc. While others which are muchlarger are able to provide much higher current levels and are ideal for power tools aswell as electric vehicles, e.g. electronic bicycles and sedans, etc. In practice, lithiumcells occasionally occur overcurrent, overvoltage, over temperature, etc, which giverise to degradation of performance, shorten operational life span. In some worsecircumstances, the consequences could be some sort of violent explosions that maythreaten life and cause property loss. Therefore, designing a platform that is capableof providing on-line surveillance, protection, early warning and diagnostics forlithium cells must be of a certain value in terms of daily practice.This paper designs a platform based on radio frequency identification namedRLCLEWDF (i.e. RFID Lithium Cell Long-Range Early Warning and DiagnosticPlatform). The RLCLEWDF is based upon RFID technologies in order to fulfill theon-line state measurement, early warning and malfunction diagnosis for lithium cells.The entire design of the RLCLEWDF can be divided into three parts including theon-line data-collecting platform, theories and principles for early warning andmalfunction diagnosis, management software for applications.The scenario of the RLCLEWDF, has been initially adopted by GEOBY ElectricVehicle Co.,Ltd on trial, and can be basically satisfied with requirements from theGEOBY company in aspects of daily surveillance, protection, management, etc.
