In the year2005,the power grid of Guilin was supplied mainly by Yongfu Hongyuan Power Plant of Guilin through triple transmission line of220kV, without any one of500kV substation in this region. With the establishment and development of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, the economic situation of Guilin city improved fast, which promotes the power demand drastically. According the load forecasting at that time, the load would reach1150MW in2007and it would still need supplying by the power system with630MW deducting the contribution of existent power source of the region. Thus, when only dependent on the Yongfu Hongyuan Power Plant and triple transmission line to supply power, any one of the line or the generator is out of service, the reliability of the power supply of the grid would be in doubt with its’cutting most of its load. So, to satisfy the power demand for the fast economic development and further improve the capacity and reliability of the power grid in Guilin, the500kV substation would be built and the500kV line from Guidong to Guilin would be set up.The paper expound fully the design flow of the500kV transmission line and with that as a basis to discuss thoroughly such topics as optimal selection of reinforcing anti-ice capacity of the conductor and grounding wires, selecting the mode of operation of OPGW and its energy-saving optimization, tower lightning protection and other problems according to the actual situation of the500kV line from Liudong to Guilin.
