ABSTRACT:The construction of roof garden is an effective way for urban afforestation. Considering that roof garden may be too heavy for the structure and the mass of roof garden may be serious uncertainty in using, a rolling-pendulum type TMD system is put forward in this paper to reduce the seismic response. The new TMD can control structural vibration effectively by using the mass of the roof garden, and it can also eliminate the control loss owing to frequency mistuning of the TMD caused by mass-uncertam.The main study work in this paper is summarized as follows:1Robust analysis and synthesis based on the theory of H∞are applied to minimize the bad effect of the pendulum type TMD system and the translational TMD system caused by the mass-uncertain. As a result of the analysis, the rolling-pendulum type TMD can control the system response better comparing to the classical translational TMD in normal building structures both under harmonic excitation and seismic excitation.2Several normalized peak acceleration of the seismic waves are chosen as incentive, the average pseudo acceleration response spectrum of the pendulum type TMD system and the translational TMD system are calculated to verify the pendulum type TMD system has better adaptability to quality changes theoretically.3Taking an actual seismic retrofitting project as an example, reasonable suggestions for the arrangement of roof garden and installation of a pendulum TMD system are presented from the angle of seismic control.4The seismic analysis under frequent earthquake shows that the rolling-pendulum TMD can effectively control the story drift, the base shear and the absolute acceleration of the floor. The rolling-pendulum TMD is stable with mass-uncertain; The seismic analysis of the structure under rare earthquake shows that the pendulum TMD can reduce the elasto-plastic story drift and the plastic development degree of the beam plastic hinge, thus reduce the damage degree of the structure.
