Compared with the traditional structure, the long-span steel structures have its special dynamic characteristics and complex seismic response. In this paper, taking the Weinan stadium long-span space steel pipe truss structure as engineering background. To study the seismic response of the structure under rare earthquake, the structure of the Weinan Stadium was analyzed by dynamic elasto-plastic analysis method which considered seismic wave propagation direction and static elasto-plastic analysis which considered higher modes with two kinds of finite element calculation software MIDAS/Gen and SAP2000. The main work of this paper are as follows:(1) Summarize the research background and current status, method of analysis, the existing research results and problems of seismic behavior of long-span space steel pipe truss structure. At the same time, it points out the necessity and importance of the study on the seismic performance of the long-span steel structures.(2) Study of dynamic characteristics and seismic response of roof structure of the Weinan stadium was performed by the modal analysis and response spectrum analysis under the frequently occurred earthquake. And the effect of different supporting forms of seismic response under the frequently occurred earthquake was studied.(3) Study of seismic behavior of roof structure of the Weinan stadium was performed by dynamic elasto-plastic analysis method with three kinds of different seismic waves in 7 different seismic wave propagation directions. And understand the structural dynamic response under the action of seismic wave and the location and development of the plastic hinges of the structure. At the same time, the influence on structural seismic performance of seismic wave propagation direction was analyzed.And the influence on dynamic elasto-plastic analysis results of different supportingforms was analyzed.(4) Study of seismic behavior of roof structure of the Weinan stadium was performed by static elasto-plastic analysis with the modal pushover analysis method(MPA) and 14 different lateral load patterns. Understand the weak link of the structure and structure seismic behavior under severe earthquake.Loading pattern of pushover analysis is discussed by evaluating static elastio-plastic analysis results and dynamic elastio-plastic analysis results. Then, the influence on pushover analysis results of different supporting forms was analyzed.(5) Finally, seismic behavior of roof structure of the Weinan stadium under severe earthquake was judged and evaluated. And at the same time the main research results are summarized, some opinions and suggestions for further research and engineering was proposed.
