The vibration of hydro turbine generating sets (HTGS) is an important factor affecting the operation safe of the hydropower stations. The vibration characteristics of the HTGS are basic data for the units’structure design, control design and hydropower station powerhouse structure optimization design. Analyzing the oscillation source of the station building and the HTGS, extracting the vibration characteristic of the HTGS parameters, and researching the coupling relationship between the shafting vibration of the HTGS and the plant structure. It provides the theoretical and technical supports for the optimizing design and the vibration control of the HTGS and plant structure. It has some scientific value and engineering significance. The main research contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The HTGS model is established, and is applied to research the shafting vibration characteristics of the HTGS. This model includes five parts, the fifth order nonlinear hydro turbine model with the elastic water hammer which is derived from the single pipe and single machine hydraulic system model and the IEEE Working Group series model, the third-order generator model in single machine infinite system, the shafting vibration transient model of the HYGS, the typical PID governor control system model and the PI excitation controller model.(2) The Prony algorithm is introduced, which is applied to extract the oscillation characteristics of the THGS in this paper. And then its applicability in the researching the vibration characteristic of HTGS is verified by an example..(3) The main vibration sources of the HTGS, the hydraulic, mechanical, the electrical, and-other reasons, are introduce in brief. This paper focuses on researching the shafting vibration of the HGTS produced by hydraulic factor. The shafting vibration features of the HTGS are extracted by the Prony algorithm. Further, effects of different amplitude and frequency of pressure pulsation on the shafting vibration are researched.(4) The influence of guide bearing stiffness and damping coefficient of the generator rotor and hydro turbine runner on the shafting vibration are simulated and researched.(5) By comparing calculation and simulation results, this paper analyzes the relationship between the HTGS vibration and the powerhouse vibration, which gives a new refer to vibration-proof design of the powerhouse.
