With the development of social economy, communication industry in our country has been rapidly developed. However, the blind planning and construction of various types of base stations and radios result in more and more complex electromagnetic environment. In addition, daily increasing events of mutual interference among radios happen. Hence electromagnetic environment is suffering from different extent of pollution. Although the condition of the national electromagnetic environment and pollution is moving with favorable development after the continuous efforts of the national, government and related institutions, the situation remain harsh. Electromagnetic environmental monitoring has become the focus of the management departments of environment and spectrum at all levels. Artificial electromagnetic environmental monitoring methods mainly used in the past can not meet the requirements of automation and information managements. Moreover, the frequency bands of electromagnetic environmental monitoring are gradually widening, the monitoring data is becoming larger and larger, and thus remote real-time monitoring and visualization of massive data are of more prominent significance. As a consequence, it has great significance to establish new mobile electromagnetic environmental monitoring and visualization systems.The overall design idea of our paper is described as follows:the real-time monitoring system of electromagnetic environment is firstly researched and designed based on the platform of virtual instrument software and the technologies of DataSocket data transmission and database, and then the monitoring data is visualized through Google maps technology. The electromagnetic environmental monitoring system proposed in the paper not only has the functions of transmission, storage and display of monitoring data, but also can visually display the data on the map by creating an electromagnetic monitoring site. Therefore, such kind of system allows monitors to intuitively observe the electromagnetic environment of specific areas through maps. In this way, it would provide assistant decision-making support for the planning and construction of mobile communication base stations and radios, and improve the efficiency of spectrum management. The contents of this paper involve a wide range of knowledge such as virtual instrument, data transmission, database and network development. Firstly, the present situation of the electromagnetic environmental monitoring at home and abroad are systematically analyzed and summarized. Secondly, the relevant technologies are introduced and the overall design scheme and business process of the system are determined. Thirdly, the detailed design of the system is provided and the realization processes of the system programs are highlighted. Finally, the field experiment of electromagnetic environment monitoring is carried out and the corresponding experimental results are analyzed and discussed. In what follows, the summaries and prospects of our work are presented.
