With the rapid development of social economy, people’s living standards improve constantly, so do the requirements of comfort of the living environment. The Chinese government’s awareness of environment protection gradually strengthens under international influence. Central heating, which can satisfy the efficient use of energy, with a low running cost, less environmental pollution, develops rapidly and becomes an important urban infrastructure. But accidents of heating system occur frequently this year, which have brought inconvenience to people’s life and also caused economic losses to the society. So the study on the reliability of the heating system is more and more important.The paper summarizes early research achievements of factors affecting the reliability of heating pipe network and proposes a new method to improve the reliability of the heating network-equivalent homogenization. To analyze the reliability influence of equivalent division of branch pipe network and loop pipe network and to exemplify equivalent homogenization are very effective to enhance the reliability of the ring pipe network, but the impact to the branch pipe network is little. By using the method of municipal engineering investment budget, the economic feasibility of equivalent area equalization improvement is calculated. Structure shows that the branch pipe network equivalent area equalization cost will be greatly improved, while annular pipe network equivalent area equalization cost doesn’t increase but has a small decline. Thus equivalent homogenization is proved to be an effective and economical way to enhance the reliability of loop pipe network.In China, research on reliability of heat supply network has been relatively mature, but the research was very little in terms of heat source. By references from various areas of maintenance mechanical reliability analysis and the research achievements of Russia, the paper proposes to use the Markov model to calculate the reliability of the heat source method, gives statistical method of various equipment failure statistics of heat source, draws logical structure diagram of heat source, lists the Markov equation, gets the heat source in the probability of each state and the corresponding evaluation index of reliability of heat source. The paper proposes to evaluate the reliability of heat source by the user’s thermal classification and puts forward the idea of calculating the reliability of the heat source through semi-Markov model.
