As the city’s main trading sites of commodities, mall buildings play importantrole in people’s lives. With the social development and improving of people’s livingstandards, the form and function of mall buildings have undergone great changes.People activity in mall buildings has no more limited as commodities trading, buttoward to entertainment, leisure, catering and other diversified direction. With theimprovement of material conditions, people’s requirements of comfort and pleasureare also increasing. The manager of mall buildings are also trying to improve theconsumption environment in order to attract consumers, facing the pressure ofcompetition between each other.Research shows, there are many problems in the process of improving theenvironment quality. Much mall buildings have high internal temperature and lowrelative humidity, while many other factors that adversely affect human thermalcomfort. As can be seen, there are some misunderstanding during the managerscreate a good indoor thermal environment.According to foreign literature review and field trips, I found the research ofwinter thermal comfort for mall buildings in severe cold area in our country less andnot deep enough. This paper introduces the theory of thermal comfort for the previous researchresults, and describes the characteristics of weather in severe cold area and itsimpact of local architecture and residents. Propose the influence of indoor thermalenvironment made by siting, spatial form, envelope characteristics and other aspectsof mall buildings, as well as the physical environmental factors and individualdifferences.Measure the physical environment and make questionnaire survey in four mallbuildings of Harbin and Changchun. Analyze the characteristics of distribution andchange for the physical environment according to the data obtained by measurementand survey. Summarize the advantages and disadvantages of mall buildingsenvironment. Analyze the results of the questionnaire combined with the measureddata, then determine the neutral indoor temperature range of mall buildings in severe cold area in winter. Discuss the relationship between thermal neutral andthermal comfort, and the thermal expectations of resident in severe cold area.Analyze the how individual differences impact the thermal comfort.Make instructional strategies to enhance the winter thermal comfort of mallbuildings in severe cold area, by analyzing the affecting factors of thermal comfort.
