With the continuous expansion of university campuses in China,the number of university libraries has also increased dramatically.However,as a core part of university buildings,university library is often characterized by large scale,lots of users and long running time.As a result,the energy consumption of university library is far higher than the other university buildings,especially the air-conditioning energy consumption.Therefore,how to reduce the energy consumption of university library has become an urgent problem for architects.As a common space type of university library,the atrium space is usually characterized by large space dimension,frequently exchange of air flow and heat with outside.So the reasonable design of atrium can effectively control the heat exchange speed,reduce building energy consumption and improve indoor thermal environment.However,in the actual construction of university library,the thermal comfort of the atrium is often non-ideal especially in cold regions where library design mostly considered about winter thermal insultion while ignoring the thermal environment of natural ventilation situation in transitional season.Based on the above background,this paper takes the atrium space of university library in severe cold region as the research object,discusses the specific influence of atrium space in different forms during transitional season,and puts forward corresponding design strategies based on the analysis results.Firstly,the existing morphological parameters such as plane size,atrium form and spatial layout of university libraries in severe cold areas were studied,and the threshold of atrium form of common libraries was determined.Meanwhile,through the analysis of the basic design norms of domestic libraries and the climatic conditions of transitional season in cold regions,a typical model of university libraries in cold regions was established.Then,the control variable experiment method was used to simulate the indoor thermal environment of the library under different atrium shape through Airpak software,and the numerical value and distribution of indoor temperature and wind speed were obtained.Finally,by comparing the simulation results under different atrium shapes,the rules of indoor thermal environment with atrium morphologies were summarized,and the thermal environment optimization strategies of university libraries in cold regions were put forward.
