The Study On The Design Of Modern Jiageng Architecture Style

Jiageng style buildings play a significant role in the modern Chinese architecturehistory. For now, there have been more than30buildings listed in the nationalculture relic protection sites. Though the initial Jiageng buildings were planned,designed and supervised of construction by Chen Jiageng with personal preference,the special architectural style has developed and evolved into a vast array of groups,representing the unique aesthetic and cultural identity of Xiamen people. Since1980s, a large scale of construction of Jiageng style buildings have been conductedin some key planning areas to highlight the features of urban landscape and urbancontext. From then on, Jiageng style has become an identity of Xiamen citydevelopment. The current studies on Jiageng buildings have reached someachievements. Based on that, this study considered the contradictory factors betweenthe new life styles and the traditional construction ways so that put forward therealization in aesthetic level of modern Jiageng building design style.The research focused on the modern Jiageng buildings which combined thetraditional elements and some creation since1980s in Xiamen, also including sometraditional Jiageng style buildings. The main work of this thesis includes:(1) Fieldsurvey and unscrambling the apparent features,(2) summarizing the4aspectsinfluencing on modern Jiageng style building design from aesthetic aspects,(3)analyzing the typical cases and, of which concluding the advantages anddisadvantages,(4) questionnaire survey to different social groups, in order to obtainrelatively objective social feedback,(5) concluding contradictory factors in modernJiageng style architectural design,(6) forwarding recommended strategies of modernJiageng style building design base on potential value and current situation.In conclusion, this thesis was put together by combing history and currentsituation. By studying the aesthetic aspects, it is practical and operational forcontinuation these historical buildings’ inner thoughts. And to get rid of the changesin realistic conditions due to disregard, and the changes in creation subject of therigid style.
