Research On The Performance Of A New Type Of Bituminous Pavement Sealing Material

Asphalt pavement is one of the road structural forms mostly applied arround the world.Asphalt pavement may appear early failure one or two years after it opened to traffic, whichmainly resulted from water damage. Once the road surface suffers the water erosion, thedecrease of the mixed material’s adhesion will cause cracks, pit slots, and other damage, andthey’ll expand as time goes on. This not only reduces the road usage, but also damage thevehicles’ mechanical components, which may leads to traffic accidents.As a result, it is prettynecessary to prevent the water damage of asphalt pavement and maintain the early failure.Whereas, the sealing materials used in our country have some effects on the prevention ofbituminous pavement’s water erosion, but they don’t show many defects. It is rather essintialto find new sealing materials for the roads in constrution and the roads in maintaining,preventing the water erosion, and increasing the lifetime of the roads.By reading many references,this project studied the cause of water damage andmechanism of deterioration and analyzed the mechanism,merits and demerits of impermeablematerials commonly used,summing up the sealing mechanism of new tape impermeablematerial.Through tests on its strength property of new type impermeable material, like thecompressive strength and bending strength. We did comparison tests between untreatedcommon asphalt mixture and asphalt mixture adding new typle impermeable materialon,bending strength,cutting strength and Marshall strength the effects that new typeimpermeable material has on properties of asphalt mixture. Also we did shop experiment toshow barrier property, skid resistance, water preservation and water stability of asphaltmixture adding new typle impermeable material.New impermeable material consists of epoxy resin, hardening agent, emulsified asphaltetc. By adding this new impermeable material, we could pevent penetration of dampness,it would have important reference to the road construction and maintaining.
