| The selection of industrial projects plays a leading and dominant role on the urbanmorphology overall y or partly, especially the large projects or industrial areas. A centurylater than the western country, Chinese industry started in the following Opium War. Risingof modern industry makes the urban development to a new step.After1949, the industry like awave swept across the country, in a complete form tochange the face of the Chinesecities.From then on, industrial development has been a main theme in the development ofChinese cities.As the center of southern China’s largest city,the industrial development of Guangzhouhas a long history. After the founding of new China, Guangzhou gradually built the industrialsystem, which gives priority to the light textile industry and has a certain supporting ability onheavy industry. After the reform and opening-up policy, a batch of new enterprises have beenbuilt, introducing a large number of advanced technology and equipment, some oldenterprise have been transformed, making the industry of Guangzhou achieving a qualitativeleap.This paper focuses on the development of the industry in Guangzhou and its influence onthe urban morphology since1980, and divides the developing process into4phases, includingthe late Qing Dynasty(1840-1911), the Republic of China(1912-1949), the preliminary stageof the People’s Republic of China(1949-1978)and20years after China’ economicreform(1978-2000).Industrial development and location of industry in every phase is studied,for discussing the interaction between the industrial development and the edge of the city.Finally, dynamic development trend of industrial development and the process of historicalurban morphology evolution at the edge in Guangzhou will be worked out.This paper is mainly divided into three parts. The first part is introduction, saying thesignificance of this paper research, the related research status, research scope, method andtechnical route, etc.The second part is the main research part, divided into four chapters. According to thedivision of historical periods, this paper states the industrial development and urbanmorphology evolution respectively.Dividing out small periods under the long history,the paper states the dynamic mechanism of industrial development, industrial categories, factorynumber, geographical distribution, etc, concluding the dynamic curve of industrialdevelopment and the evolution of urban morphology,and the development characteristics ofevery period.The third part is the conclusion part. On the basis of the analysis of the second part, itcompares with each period, summing up the overall characteristic of industrial developmentand the evolution of urban morphology between1840and2000, exploring the inner relationbetween each other. And it also summarized the deficiencies and limitations, to provide theenlightenment for the later research. |
