Updated Research Of The Old Campus Based On The Development Of The Surrounding Area

Since1990s, supervisors in universities all around the country were ready tobroaden the area of universities and build new campuses. Resulting from the buildingof new campuses, supervisors ignored the development of the old campus and evenhad the idea of ditching it. The old campus is often located in cities, and has theadvantage of geography, function, resource and culture. With many years’ advancing,its schoolyard has reached a certain scale and has featured setup. A great manyindividuals are into the function, road system and characteristic scene. Manysignificant buildings and scenes represent the culture of universities and even theculture of surrounding area, having the profound intension of humanistic spirit.Having the reasonable position to the old campus is beneficial to the development ofuniversities and surrounding area. Consequently, the old campus has the great valueof improving and updating.This thesis regards old campuses as subjects in the study, analyzes advantages ofthose, the relation between those and surrounding area, current and improvingsituation of old ones by using the theory of city design and campus planning. Thewriter conducts field investigation on the current situation of a bunch of old campuses,summarizes the existing problems in old campuses by combining the theory withpractice, uses the experience of other countries for reference, concludes updatingtactic of old campuses from the perspective of the development of surrounding area,proposes updating design principles and methods, providing reference for theupdating of old campuses in the future.
