Electromagnetic-controlled silicon oil fan clutch is a new energy saving productwhich utilizes the high viscosity characteristic of the silicone oil to transmit torque. Itcan reduce the engine fuel consumption, drive down emissions and reduce the enginenoise caused by fans when applied to the engine cooling system. Therefore, theperformance of electromagnetic-controlled silicon oil fan clutch will have a significantimpact on the human living environment and corresponding measurement and controlsystem must be designed to assess its overall performance.This measurement and control system is designed to detect the speedcharacteristics, separation and meshing characteristics of the electromagnetic controlledsilicon oil fan clutch. The system mainly consists of an upper computer and a lowercomputer. The upper computer is composed of industrial personal computer, DAQboard, sensors and so on. And its major functions include testing the performance of theproducts, controlling the hardware of the measurement and control system andmanaging the test data. Adopting the Infineon XC886microcontroller as the core, thelower computer adjusts the PWM duty cycle so as to control the fan speed.The main contents of this paper are as follows:①By referencing the research status and performance characteristics of theelectromagnetic controlled silicon oil fan clutch at home and abroad. The overallfeasible architecture of the measurement and control system which includes themechanical part and the measurement and control part is designed.②The selection and configuration of the upper computer hardware are completedaccording to the function requirements of the measurement and control system, such asthe industrial personal computer, speed sensor, multifunction DAQ board, signalconditioning module and secondary instruments. Then together with the LabVIEWsoftware development platform, each functional module of this system is implemented.③The lower computer employed the fuzzy PID control algorithm to adjust theduty cycle of the PWM signal and then control the fan speed.④A serial communication protocol consisting of four bytes is designed. With thehelp of the serial communication protocol, the stable and reliable data transmissionbetween the upper and lower computer is achieved.⑤By configuring the ODBC data source, the operations of MySQL database on the measurement and control system is realized. And to fulfill the remote access foreach distributed test station, a measurement and control system server is also designed.⑥The manual-test, the open-loop test and the closed-loop test trial of the systemis conducted, and the processes and results of these trail is analyzed.The trial results show that the reliable and easy to operate measurement and controlsystem not only meets the requirements of the product, but also has an excellentperformance and high test efficiency.
