Research On Users’ Behavior In Public Space Of Chongqing Dongbu Park

Community is a basic composition of the city. Community park is one of theimportant elements to community and has the direct influence on inhabitants’physiological and psychological health. Community park is the place to carry leisureand entertainment activitiesfrequently. In the process of the rapid development of urbanconstruction, the quantity of community park has increased. The outcomes aboutcommunity park planning and design has become diverse, and design techniques haveimproved a lot. But, the effect often cannot meet the designer’s expectation, such as lowspace utilization and spatial misuses. In order to design high quality community parkwhich could meet the recreational needs of city residents, it must make a rationalanalysis of user requirements. Therefore, we can carry out rational layout according tothe function of community park, and fully consider the various elements of the space, topursue distinctive community park space, so that urban residents could get richconnotation of spatial experience.Regarding the physical environment and users’ behaviors, this research choosesChongqing Dongbu Community Park as the object of research. This paper obtains datawith behavior mapping method as main research method, records users’behavior in thecommunity park, summarizes the spatial distribution of different recreational behavior,analyzes the effects of the public space in city community parks on the users’ behavior.This research focuses on the relationship between behavior and space environment. Atlast, this research points out the design principles of public space in city communityparks, and provides reference to the construction of more vibrant and popular citycommunity parks.This paper is divided into six parts:The first part is about introduction. This part embraces an overall background,purpose and significance of the research, and reviews the development of communitypark, and space behaviors in park. And it determines the research content, establishesthe framework of research.The second part is about research on users’andparkspace. This part at first makes adescription of difference between urban communityparkandcomprehensivepark，thensummarizesthe behavioral characteristics ofuser groups and classifiesthe behavior.Afterwards this part describes behavior patterns. Finally,itintroduces theresearchmethods, layingthe foundation forthe nextresearch step.The third part is about methodology. It expounds research design, research objectand data collection.The forth part is about empirical research on the space behavior for users inDongbu Park. Through classifying and discussing the data, it analyzes constitutes ofusers, use time, and behavior. Behavioral mapping shows the use patterns and spatialdistribution. This part makes a comprehensive judgment about the behavior condition inDongbu Park.The fifth part is the analysis of user behavior and the space environment. Itanalyzes as three layers: the relationship between user and park function, the parkfunction and behavior, behavior and space，in order to summarize spatial characteristicswhich can adapt different behavior.The sixth part is the research conclusion and outlook. This section summarizes theconclusions of this paper， proposes the thinking of how to design urban communitypark, and describes research inadequacies and the direction of future research.
