Research On Construction Management Collaboration Mechanism For BIM Implementation

Architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is dissatisfied withproject outcomes and argue that projects often run over-schedule, over-budget, and areof low quality. New technologies (Especially new information technologies) basedproject collaboration management model become an important tool to solve theseproblems. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has arrived with the feature ofintegration, digitization and information connections. BIM is model informationtechnology platform, which can be used to construction project design, construction andmaintenance management. Meanwhile, it is also a communication platform that allowall the participants share techniques and knowledge with each other. Therefore, BIM isleading a new pattern of project management collaboration management model, thispattern is a connection of project management and BIM thinking, it will achieveeffective and efficient in AEC industry. This paper has realistic meanings and values.The state-of-art BIM research in international and china is discussed, this part has afurther discussion of BIM tendency and main research area in the world. This paperdemonstrates the emerging research on collaboration in project management, providesthe research focus in project procurement models.31BIM uses are screened from42BIM standards/guidelines, and13uses are verified in40case studies in journal articles.Based on the theory of synergetics, project management, project managementcollaboration and BIM thinking, this paper develop two theoretical frameworks ofparticipants collaboration, which are stakeholders’ collaboration model in the projectlife-cycle based on BIM and stakeholders’ collaboration in BIM uses. The macroscopiccollaboration mechanism introduced the concept of BIM values and workflow, andcreates stakeholders collaboration models in DBB, DB and IPD project procurementmodels. Meanwhile, another is construction stakeholder collaboration model inmicrocosmic view. And the microcosmic collaboration mechanism chosen7BIM usesto define the BIM values and described3BIM uses in-depth.Last but not least, a construction case study is chosen to verify the collaborationmechanisms and to analyse the possible drawbacks.
