The light-gauge enclosing walls can increase the heat transfer path and reducethe thermal bridge of the steel wall by slotted with multi-row of holes on the webs ofC-shaped cold-formed studs, which will weak the static properties of the wall. Asnon-bearing wall, we focus more on the bending capacity to the wind and impactresistance. This paper did research on the desgin method of bending capacity forcold-formed steel and finite element models was built to get the effective width ofthe gypsum board. Besides, the impact resistance of the wall was investigated byexperiment. The main contents of this dissertation are listed:1. Effect width method and direct strength method was used to calculate thebending capacity of the cold-formed steel (including holes and without holes). AISIand GB was used in effect width method. Each method was appraised comparedwith the experiment result. The results show that of the three desgin methods, AISIwas in better agreement with the test results and GB was too safer. AISI effect widthmethod fit the experiment result better with our simplified method, while directstrength method will cause counter-intuitive result dealing with the slotted studs,which need more researchs.2. The finite element model was built up with ABAQUS to investigate thebending behavior of slotted steel walls. The reliability of the models were verifiedwith experimental results. Based on it, the effect width of the gypsum board wascalculated and the influence factor of the effective width was analyzed. The resutlsshowed that the distance between the studs and the depth of the gypsum had feweffect on the effective width of the gypsum, while the smaller the depth of the gaugewas, the larger the effective width would be.3. A standard was chosen to classify the impact resistance of the light-gaugesteel wall. Based on it, experimental study was carried out to test the impactresistance level of the walls. By taking some measures to improve the impact resistance, the light-gauge enclosing wall can satisfy some needs of the impactresistance.
