The light-gauge steel stud wall prossess features of light weight, satisfyingseismic performance, excellent heat insulation and energy saving competity. Studsin the light-gauge wall are slotted longitudinally with multi-rows of narrow holes ontheir webs which are intended to improve the overall heat insulation, fire resistanceand sound insulation of overall buliding enclosure. Experimental and numericalresearches on the slotted stud wall were conducted in this paper. Temperaturedistributions on the exposed surface and unexposed surface of the walls, and thosein the cross sections of the steel studs, as well, were discussed. Influences of keyfactors-spalling time of gypsum board, row number of slots, height of web, layersof gypsum boards-on temperatures of slotted stud walls were studied, Full-scaletests were carried out to investigate the sound insulation performance of slotted studwalls using the reverberation chamber method. The main contents are as following:1. Experimental research on the fire resistance of slotted stud wallsFour full-scale slotted stud walls were tested under ISO-834standard fireloading. Temperatures of exposed surface, unexposed surface, key position at thecross section of steel studs were measured. Spalling phenomenon of the heatedgypsum board druing testing was observed. Key factors, including gypsum boardseams, height of web, layers of gypsum boards, low number of slots, and mortar onunexposed surface, were studied to investigate their influences on temperatures ofslotted stud walls. Lateral displacement was measured to understand thedevelopment of deflection of the walls in fire.2. Finite element analysis of fire resistance of slotted stud wallsA three-dimensional FE model of the slotted stud wall was developed with theprogram ABAQUS to analyze its fire performance. The model was validated bycomparisons against experiments in this study and other related test data. The FEmodel was employed to conduct further parametric studies. Parameters include thespalling time of heated gypsum board, height of web, row number of slots, andlayers of gypsum boards.3. Sound insulation performance of slotted stud wallsTwo full-scale slotted stud walls were tested using the reverberation chambermethod. The sound transmission loss and critical coincidence frequency of the wallswere obtained. The influence of mortor on sound insulation was studied.
