With the rapid development of highway in China, the number of highway tunnels hasbeen growing up. However, the increasing traffic flow, traffic density and design speed bringsa very serious threat to the safety of highway transportation. Due to the low backgroundbrightness, strong contrast produced by artificial lighting in highway tunnel sections willinduce glare in the driver’s eyes, which will cause disorder to the driver’s visual function.Research of highway tunnel lighting glare influence on drivers’ visual function can providereliable reference for improving highway tunnel lighting. The main research contents and results are as follows.(1)Based on highway tunnel lighting, the glare influence mechanism was analyzed. Glareeffects on the human eye, the equivalent screen brightness which caused by glare will affectthe driver’s visual judgment.(2)In the highway tunnel lighting environment, the calculation methods of glareinfluence level G and the calculation method of glare recovery time T were found out bythe analyzes of glare factors.(3)The simulation of tunnel lighting has been done with the software of AutodeskEcotect Analysis, and the analyzed data was obtained in many cases the glare of lamps andlanterns of highway tunnel lighting. Through the quantitative analysis of simulation data, thescope of the influence caused by the glare in driver’s eyes was determined.(4)Combined with the geometrical optics, the glare in highway tunnel was analyzed. Toreduce glare measures were studied from the perspective of layout of lamps and lanterns, aeffective measures to reduce glare was found. In this paper, innovative put forward and analyzed the glare impact on the driver’s visualin highway tunnel lighting environment, and the effect of glare was quantitative analyzed.Effective reference basis for the design of highway tunnel lighting were provided, which willhelp to further realize safer and more comfortable highway tunnel lighting.
