In recent years, the way to dispose the adjacent structural layers of asphalt road surfacehas excited the professionals’ attention. If the interlamination shear strength or pull strengthcannot meet the standard, the structural layers will displace on the cohering surfaces. Thismay cause some severe damage to the layers, such as upheaval, cracking and rutting etc. Ascientific and legitimate usage of tack coat between asphalt layers is one of the effective waysto enhance their cohesion and quality. However, along with the traffic volume’s booming, theantiquated tack coat can not suit the drastically increasing traffic volume. To promote theinterlamination strength of road surface, this thesis comes up with a new method to add ahot-melt adhesive to the tack coat, which is proved to be remarkably effective.This thesis firstly analyzes the conformation and influential factors of the pull strengthand the shear strength which effect the interlamination cohesion. Then the generalrequirements of the common adhesive tack coat are viewed. Lastly, it adopts shear test andpull-out test to study the hot-melt adhesive’s effect on the interlamination surfaces under thelimited conditions of various affected factors.The results of the two tests show that the viscoelasticity of the tack coat and theroughness of the interlamination surface determine the shear strength. Meanwhile, the pullstrength is mainly susceptible to the viscoelasticity of the tack coat. Besides, both the shearstrength and the pull strength are affected by speed, temperature and water in a big way. Theresults also prove that adding the hot-melt adhesive into the tack coat can effectively promotethe interlamination strength of layers. It is of great significance in promoting theinterlamination cohesion of road surface and reducing the structural diseases of road surface.
