With the development of economy and the accelerating process of urbanization, theproblems of traffic congestion in our modern cities is becoming more and more serious.what’s the most serious is that intersection places have gradually become the high incidence ofcongestion. These events directly affect people’s daily life. The fixed timing signals of thetraditional traffic controller because of its poor flexibility, has been increasingly not able tomeet with the demand of intersection traffic. So it is significant to design a traffic controller, which is reasonable, efficient and reliable to improve and enhance the current city trafficsituation. What’s more, The development trend of transportation system is characterized withmore intelligence. Taking these elements into consideration, this paper puts forward a designscheme about a full induction control system of traffic light based on FPGA.This paper, based on the control theory of city traffic signal, puts forward a full inductionmode to control the intersection point lights. This idea views traffic flow data received in eachdirection sensor as the criterion, it means that, once there is car in every direction within thescope of detection and then it follows the timing control rules, or there is no car in a certaindirection which you can skip this phase. By this way, it will avoid invalid waiting time.Compared with the timing control mode, this method has some intelligent characteristics toeffectively improve the traffic efficiency. In the design, it mainly includes two aspects, software design and hardware design. As for the software, according to the designrequirement, the system is split into several sub modules, then described the functions of thesub modules with VHDL language, lately connected the sub modules into a system. For thepart of hardware, there is a design of the overall framework of the system, what is more, ithas analyzed the important modules in the system and working principle diagram design. Thesystem overall functional simulation results show that this design can realize the expectedfunction.
