Guangzhou is an important city in China. Since ancient times, the Pearl River has beenthe mother river of Guangzhou. The Pearl River waterfront has played an important role in thepart of urban landscape, ecological, cultural, social and economic. In Guangzhou, city’shistorical development has an important relationship with the development and utilization ofthe Pearl River. Therefore, to correctly study the Pearl River waterfront space, to optimize thePearl River riparian landscape, to meet people’s needs for leisure activities and to activelycooperate with the Pearl River area renewal and development are significant to the attractionof the Pearl River, the land potential, ecological, the structure of city space and the PearlRiver’s culture.Waterfront landscape space is the research object of this study. The study combines thetheory of City Image and the Space Syntax to analysis the waterfront landscape spaces. Thereare four main parts in this study. The first part is the basic status analysis that includes thesummary of the Pearl River’s history, general situation of the Pearl River and analysis of fieldinvestigation. The second part includes the review of relevant waterfront landscape theories,the core of the theory and application of City Image and Space Syntax. The third part includesusing the theory of City Image to analyze waterfront landscape spaces, using the theory ofSpace Syntax to analyze the structure of spatial system, and then combining these tworesearch results with the environmental quality comprehensive evaluation to interactivelystudy the waterfront landscape space. The forth part is to summary the Pearl River landscapeadvantages and problems and to propose the optimization strategies based on above studies.
