The Evaluation System Of Form Value Of Historic Districts

Historic districts usually keep the best and the most memories of the city. They reflectthe historical and cultural value, and also constitute the reality of life today. Historic district isthe best witness to the city with long history and splendid culture.Basing on protecting the value of historic districts, this paper has a deep study on how toevaluate the morphology of the historic district. The purpose is to form a specific value of thehistoric district, and thus the value of the elements established by morphology, establish anevaluation system of form value of historic district. Based on this evaluation system, we canassess the overall form of districts, so as to achieve deeper knowledge of the community onthe value of form of districts, develop guidelines to protection strategy, and ultimatelyenhance the overall quality of the protection in historic district.The evaluation system of form value of historic district can be used to the empiricalstudy. Through the establishment of a scientific and mathematical model and scientific dataprocessing, the researchers can characterize the form value of a single historic district bycomprehensive evaluation and follow-up study.The evaluation the results will help us to findthe development process issues of district and to guide its direction and developmentdecisions. In addition, this system can also be used to assess the comparative study betweendifferent districts. Therefore, the evaluation system has a strong guiding significance forpractice.As the birthplace of Lingnan culture, Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing are also theprominent representatives of Cantonese culture. Besides, they are also the national historicaland cultural city of Guangdong Province with numerous historical sites and rich culturalheritage. Moreover, the competitiveness of the three cities and the different stage ofdevelopment, so that the developing of the historic district have different focuses.So thehistoric districts of three different characteristics have research significance.This paper includes six chapters. By discussing "Jinling station incident" and theprotection of Italian historic districts, first chapter rethinks profoundly of quantification ofform value of the city’s historic heritage measurable form proposed research object, put forward the research object, research background and significance, and theoretical review onresearch progresses at home and abroad. The second chapter studies the basic theory,including the main object of the historic district assessments, development situation,assessment carrier, and assessment methods. The third chapter is the core part of this paper.This chapter first builds a conceptual model of the evaluation system of form value of historicdistrict. Secondly it studies the specific methods of building the evaluation system. Finally itbuilds out the evaluation system of form value of this study, and calculates the weight ofevaluation indexes. The fourth chapter is the case study part taking the main historic districtsof Guangzhou，Foshan and Zhaoqing for example to apply the evaluation system to practice.The fifth chapter is an extended thinking of the evaluation system.This chapter also exploresthe relationship between form value and principal value of historic district, and discusses theapplicability of the evaluation system for analysis and reflection on practice.
