To become an excellent university, in addition to outstanding academic performance, more crucially is to conceive the educational concept that concentrate on training talent, toensure that students are able to solve problems from interdisciplinary points, and developskills of creative thinking and leadership. In recent years many domestic famous universitiessuch as Fudan University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shantou University, SoochowUniversity, began to explore a new educational management model that lead by professionaleducation, combining liberal education, research education and community education as oneunity——the "College " system of education management mode.In this mode the student living area (also known as the College) is an important placefor its educational philosophy manifestation. Under the motivation of the inherent concept, the living area is a multifunctional unit that combined with functions of residence, education, activity holding, dinning, office and so on, reflecting the characteristics of efficient,mixed-use,communicative, belongingness and so on, which forms an integrative community thatcombined with residence, education and activity.Universities in Hong Kong and Macao regions early introduced of the " college " systemeducational management mode. Among which the Chinese University of Hong Kong is themost representative. Whether it is in the implementation of educational methods, managementof study and living or construction of student living area, they have more mature experience. The architectural style in living area is compatible with the management mode. Althoughuniversities and colleges in Hong Kong and Macao have difference on the aspects ofeducational background, lifestyle, etc. compared with universities in China mainland, Ibelieve that the application of “College” system and its design experience of relevantarchitectural space and style has high value of reference on deepening understanding anddevelopment of this educational management mode, and optimizing its architectural space incampus. And this is the starting point of this study. It is the start point of this paper. I hopethis research output can direct the planning of living area in those domestic universities thathave or are about to implement the “College” system. The paper is divided into four sectionsto elaborate on the topic:The first part is the first chapter: to discuss the necessity of study the topic underbackground of today’s higher education, research to define the object and scope of the study, clarify the relevant concepts of the article, and offer the research methods and technologyroadmap at last. The second part is the second chapter: To analyze the concept of “College” system ofeducation management mode and student behaviors under this mode, to elaborate thedevelopment outline of “College” system in international universities. The third part is the third and fourth chapters: To select the five typical colleges in TheChinese University of Hong Kong to do investigation and analysis. And based on thisresearch, to and analysis the four aspects-function mode, spatial mode, traffic mode, management mode-of living area architecture under “College” system in Hong Kong andMacao’s universities. And conclude the characteristics of each mode. The fourth part is the fifth chapter: The enlightenment of Hong Kong and Macao"College " system. Summarize of problems of domestic universities, and propose ofoptimization strategies through the conclusion of Characteristics of building mode in livingarea under the “College” system.
