The subway tunnel lining concrete would produce a mass of heat during construction becauseof hydration heat. There would be crack problems if the thermal stress becomes larger thanstrength of the concrete. Those cracks produced during construction are dangerous to the structure,especially the penetrating ones. In the meanwhile, it’s very difficult to fix those problems due tothe concealment of the underground structure feature. As the reasons showed above, research onthe thermal stress is necessary.The research on thermal stress of massive concrete during construction is being paid attentionall the time in the past30years, however, the research on the thermal stress of tunnel liningconcrete is not enough. Finite element calculating is now a common method used for numericalsimulation of thermal stress. It has been approved generally by the academia for its accurateresults and adjustable features.This article calculates the thermal stress of tunnel lining concrete during construction usingfinite element method combining ABAQUS software and theoretic methods. It recommends theprinciples of calculating the thermal stress involving creep stress using ABAQUS. Thermal fieldsand thermal stress fields of ShenZhen No.11subway tunnel lining concrete are calculated in thisarticle with simulation of actual construction procedures. With this method, this article calculatesthe influence on thermal stress of lining concrete with different lining lengths and different initialtemperatures. At last, this article provide some suggestions for designing and constructing oftunnel lining concrete.
