An orthogonal composite-motion bevel gear is put forward based on thecombination of cam mechanism and non-circular bevel gear. The new bevel gear paircan implement the rotation of intersecting axes as well as the reciprocation of outputaxe.It hasthe unique characteristics in the aspects of motion form, motion law as well asdynamic performance. So the new gear pair has potential application prospect that canbe widely applied to engineering machinery, farm machinery, textile machinery and soon. And the study on the orthogonal composite-motion bevel gear is of greatsignificance.The subject research was from Natural Science Foundation of China, and intendedto explore the composite-motion theory and characteristics, tooth profile and universalgeometric design method. and to verify the theory and method based on simulation. Theresearch work has been organized aiming at orthogonal composite-motion bevel gear asfollowing:1) According to gear meshing theory and mechanism theory, the design method ofthe orthogonal composite-motion bevel gear was proposed and unified.The transmissiontheory was also established.And the parametric equations of pitch curve, addendum curveand dedendum curve were deduced on different design conditions with the theory ofcoordinate transformation and differential geometry.2) Tooth profile methods were obtained respectively in theory and in engineeringpractice combined with the theory of conjugate surface and the principle of thegenerating method for general gear’s manufacture, The solid and assembly models werealso finished. The theories of mechanism kinematics were applied to study the motioncharacteristics of rotation and reciprocation and to derivethe equations of transmissionratio,angular rotation velocity,reciprocating displacement andreciprocatingvelocity. Theapplicable situation and their change laws with different parameters of eccentricity andorder were discussed.3) The simulation machining system of orthogonal composite-motion bevel gearwas developed which was used for accurate modeling and optimization with theapplication programming interface(API) in SolidWorks.In addition, the naturalcharacteristics of pitch curves, transmission ratio and reciprocation displacement as wellas the time curves of angular, angular velocity, reciprocation displacement, reciprocation velocity and transmission ratio were analyzed.4) Simulation wasstudied and a comparative analysis was made on transmissionratio and reciprocation displacement between simulation result and theoreticalarithmetic result. Research showed that the gear mechanismperformed well and alsolaid foundation of theoretical principle for the practical application of orthogonalcomposite-motion bevel gear.
