With the rapid development of automobile industry, the number of trafficaccidents and the deaths is rising every year, more people pay attention to theautomobile safety, researching work about the Out-of-position Occupant injury hasreceived greater attention. For the risk of the Out-of-position Occupant, the UnitedStates Highway Traffic Safety Administration increased an Out-of-positionOccupant protection provis ions in the FMVSS208re gulation, in this regulation, itpays attention to the audience of children and Petite Female protection. The airbagdeployment test has been added to the FMVSS208regulations to detect the effecton Out-of-position Occupant protection of airbags.In this thesis, the test methods and injury evaluation of the out-of-positionoccupant experiment was discussed, And the calculation principles of thedummy damage index were described. Chose the gas flow module based oncomputational fluid dynamics, And explored the algorithm and simulation principlesof this gas flow module. Determined the folding solution of DAB and PAB wewould study by considering the research of the airbag folding.The FOLDER module was introduced, Researched the establish method of thefinite element model of L-folding and R-folding. Established the drop testsimulation model to compare the finite element model with the real model,through the adjustment of the parameters of the airbag to ensure the accuracy of thesimulation test. Set up the relevant test simulation model in MADYMO environment,the effect of the protection of DAB’s two folding patterns on the female drivers hasbeen tested by the airbag deployment test and low–risk deployment test forthe female dummy. Explored the diameter of the DAB, the airbag fabricpermeability and the porosity of the DAB’ influence on the process parametersduring the commence of DAB by orthogonal experiment method.The establishment of the the PAB simulation model was studied, and fondout an effective way to make the initial grid and reference grid of the PAB.Compared the PAB simulation model with the physical airbag by the airbagdeployment test to ensure the accuracy of the simulation model. The effect of theprotection of PAB’s two folding patterns on out-of-position child occupants has beentested by the low–risk deployment test for child dummy. In addition, optimize theairbag by the method of expanding the size of pores and the horizontal size of theairbag to achieve better protection for out-of-position child occupants.
