There are more and more electronic devices equipped on vehicle board.That makes vehicle electric system becomes a complex system from enginecontrol to transmission system, from drive, brake, steering control system tosafety system and instrument panel warning system, from batterymanagement to those all effort for making the vehicle ride comfort ability.At the same time, vehicle ECU module programming difficulty is becominghuger than ever before with the advanced electronic, bus technology andother technology development. That’s all requires more on wire arrangementintegration and network mutuality.According to the development and concept of modern vehicle diagnosis,ISO14229application level protocol together with SAE J2534which definesthe hardware and software standards of vehicle communication is acceptedas the vehicle diagnostic interface implementations in this paper. Aninterface implementation plan based on J2534is formulated to achieve thecommunication of two ports-one DLC port based on protocol J1962and theother linked to PC through USB. The pass-thru device is designed to build areal-time communication and interpret the message between PC and ECU ofthe vehicle.The hardware of the diagnostic communication interface is designedthrough Protel99SE, the software which includes PC software is designedthrough Microsoft Visual Studio2008. Moreover, a communication protocolis developed to make PC and slave machine understand each other.The pass-thru device includes CAN module of high speed, middle speed and lowerspeed,SCI to USB module which is used to communicate with PC, PinSelection and A/D module requested by J2534. And this pass-thru device could be used in most vehicles nowadays to communicate with the ECU.The pass-thru device can communicate with multi-channel ECUthrough protocol CAN, cheap, reliable, portable, easy to operate and developnew features.
