Dudou, also known as Doudu, otherwise Bra, Guodu, etc, is a Chinese traditional ling erie that shields chest and abdomen(with a cloth belt tied to the neck and another belt tied around his waist on both sides). The basic shape is diamond. Dudou, as an important symb ol of Chinese female culture and folk culture, is rich in connotation and traditional with dis tinctive characteristics. It is a unique feature and an important symbol of Chinese clothing culture. It has a great aesthetic value and profound social connotation, reflecting the ethnic and cultural characteristics of the times.This paper introduces the concept of Dudou, putting forward the background, current situation, purpose, significance and perspective of research, innovation, difficulties that can be encountered and methods of the study. This paper includes five major aspects, through analysis of Dudou heritage, cultural characteristics, clothing characteristics, development a nd innovation, explaining the cultural essence of Dudou, promoting its cultural heritage an d innovative design of traditional form. This paper uses the method combining theory and practice, which not only introduces the development and clothing features of Dudou, but al so further analyzes the folk culture and female culture of Dudou, with deep analysis and in novation of design to extends design of Dudou. The purpose is not to abandon the culture o f Dudou, and put efforts in the inheritance and innovative development of Dudou.The first chapter introduces the historical origin and heritage of Dudou and describes t he concept and artistic style of Dudou. The second chapter analyzes the Dudou design feat ures of Qing dynasty, including structure, color, decoration, artistry, materials, requirement s and impacts of component elements of Dudou, aesthetic rules of patterns, design rules an d modern art designs, giving people clear understanding of basic elements, design rules an d methods of Dudou. The third chapter analyzes the cultural connotation of women’s Dudo u of Qing Dynasty with both representative works of the Qing Dynasty and the author’s ow n practice. The above two chapters combines theoretical discussion with case studies, maki ng the content more vivid. The final chapter in this research starts from the traditional “four gentlemen” based on the sort of the Qing Dynasty Dudou. The description of Dudou focu ses on cultural elements, technical elements and design ideas that enrich the illustrations of the thesis. All above make this research reasonable and complete.
