In this paper, the unsafe and unstable factors in the instrument air system were studied. With the continuous improvement of the factory automation, automated instruments were more widely applied in petrochemical enterprises, and the quality and safety of the related air instrument have increasingly attracted more attention. As the heart of the instrument air system, once the compressed air station is in trouble, the production continuity including the device operation of the whole plant will be badly affected. To ensure the smooth operation of the compressed air station, the safety of the whole plant installations, and the long-term stable operation of instrument air system equipment, the avoidance of unplanned economic losses by unexpected production stop is of good practical importance. The content of this thesis is about the common malfunctions of the Ingersoll Rand centrifugal compressors and the compressed air drying system. With the development to the high degree automation and high compact structure, the safe operations of the equipments were being affected by more and more factors, which require a lot of maintenance workload, more inspection items and much strict demand. When they are in use, due to the internal friction and the external force, stress and chemical reaction, the hardware of the equipment will be gradually worn, corroded, and fractured, which can lead to the low efficiency or downtime. In this paper, the malfunctions of the instrument air system, such as the heavy centrifugal compressor rotor vibration, the high exhaust temperature, the high dew point of the exhaust gas from the compressed machine, the valve malfunctions were thoroughly studied. In addition, integrated with the analysis of the internal equipment mechanisms, the operating conditions, as well as the external influence factors, the causes to such malfunctions were found and optimized. According to the actual run situation of the equipment, the scientific modes of the equipments maintenance were selected, and the scientific methods for the accessories management were proposed, finally forming the reasonable conclusions. All these provide a scientific basis for system operation and maintenance, meanwhile, making the equipment maintenance frequency and repair time reduced, decreasing the number of replaced hardware, and avoiding the unnecessary energy consumption.
